MuttMix DNA Testing – Terms & Conditions
1. DNA Testing Service
MuttMix DNA results are generated by an independent laboratory using current scientific testing methods and available breed reference databases. Results represent genetic estimates based on available data at the time of testing.
2. Sample Collection
The customer is responsible for following all sample collection instructions. Failure to do so may result in contamination, insufficient DNA yield, inconclusive results, delayed processing, or test failure.
3. Insufficient DNA Yield and Sample Contamination
DNA testing requires a sufficient quantity of high-quality canine DNA. Samples may fail due to insufficient DNA yield, contamination from food, treats, toys, other animals, human DNA, environmental factors, or failure to follow collection instructions. Where a sample cannot be processed for these reasons, MuttMix may offer a replacement collection kit or resubmission option at its discretion. Complimentary retests, replacement kits, shipping costs, or refunds are not automatically available where sample quality issues are determined to be outside the laboratory’s control.
4. Dissatisfaction with Results
Disagreement with, surprise at, or dissatisfaction regarding DNA results does not in itself indicate an error and does not automatically qualify the customer for a refund, replacement kit, or complimentary retest.
5. Retests and Sample Quality
MuttMix may investigate retest requests where there is reasonable evidence of a laboratory or processing error. However, MuttMix reserves the right to decline complimentary retests where issues appear to result from improper sample collection, contamination, insufficient DNA yield, or failure to follow collection instructions.
6. Refunds
Refund requests will be considered in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008. Refunds will not ordinarily be granted where results differ from expectations or where testing issues arise due to factors within the customer’s control, including improper sample collection, contaminated samples, or insufficient DNA yield.
7. Evolving Science
Canine DNA testing is an evolving scientific field. Results may differ from those produced by other testing providers and may change over time as breed reference databases and testing methodologies develop.
8. Result Disputes
Where results are disputed, MuttMix may request photographs, sample collection information, confirmation that collection instructions were followed, and details regarding other animals present during sampling. Failure to provide reasonably requested information may limit MuttMix’s ability to investigate the matter.
9. Limitation of Liability
MuttMix cannot guarantee the presence or absence of any specific breed and makes no representation that DNA results will match a dog’s physical appearance, behavioural traits, rescue history, breeder information, veterinary opinions, or customer expectations.
